A millennial mom on a journey to find the balance between ambitious dreaming and simple living.
Hey y’all! I’m Mary Kate, The Hodgepodge Homesteader. I am the wife to my wonderful husband and the mother of three beautiful children. While I may not relate myself to the negative connotations of a “typical millennial,” I am most definitely a millennial. Balk if you wish, but i promise we millennials do have many good traits. One of my so-called millennial traits is being ambitious. I dream daily of all of the things I could do if I had an endless supply of money. Some dreams I jump into feet first, and some simply stay in my mind. I am never short on ideas, and I am definitely never bored.
Simple Living is my Ultimate Dream
Regardless of the ambitious dreams that I have floating around in my head, I have discovered that coming back to the basics of simple living is where I find the most joy. My greatest loves are family, food, farm, and fun. I love that simplicity is often more challenging than it seems, and it requires me to be creative. I love that simple living has allowed me to leave a less than ideal work environment. While I am still figuring out how to not be a working mom, I am confident I am right where I should be. This is my journey to find the balance between ambitious dreaming and simple living. I tend to be an over-thinker and an over-sharer, so buckle up and let’s take this journey together.
Why The Hodgepodge Homesteader?
Let’s start out with the definition of the word hodgepodge. A hodgepodge is defined as a confused mixture or a random assortment of things. As you get to know me, you will quickly learn that I am absolutely a random assortment of things. My hobbies bounce here, there, and yonder and my passions ebb and flow depending on the time of year. However, there is one aspect of me that remains sturdy to the core: My love for Jesus, my family, and really freaking good food. You can learn more about all three topics on my instagram!
Homesteading vs. Homemaking
Homesteading is the act of living sustainably in a frugal or self-sufficient manner. Homemaking is the act of managing a household and all of the duties within the home. Oftentimes, the two lifestyles coincide with each other. While both of these concepts seem simple, they are actually quite complex. In fact, both lifestyles are daunting to those with no background in either. My goal is to help you feel more confident in achieving either or both of these lifestyles.
